Nonstick Cookware Cooking Tips
Nonstick cookware is popular because it is so easy to use, and produces great results with minimal effort in the kitchen. But here are a few cooking tips from our test kitchen experts to be sure you get the most from your Toughened Nonstick cookware:
- Before the first time you use our nonstick cookware, condition the interior nonstick surface by rubbing a film of vegetable or canola oil over the entire cooking surface with a paper towel and then wipe off the oil. Do not condition the black exterior. Occasional reconditioning will help protect the surface and promote longer life.
- Add a little oil or butter to cover the bottom of the pan if desired and preheat on low to medium heat until the oil is shimmering but not smoking.
- We know it seems counter-intuitive, but don't use an aerosol nonstick cooking spray as it can damage the nonstick coating on the cookware.
- For oil-free cooking, preheat the pan on low to medium heat for approximately two minutes before adding food. Stay close by so you can be sure the pan doesn't get too hot.
- Use low to medium heat while cooking. For searing or stir-frying, start with medium-high heat, but once food is added to the pan turn down the heat. You will still get a perfectly golden-brown sear on your food.
- We recommend using nonstick utensils for cooking to prolong the life of your nonstick cookware. But Toughened Nonstick is safe for metal utensils which means for normal everyday cooking you can go ahead and flip your grilled cheese with a metal spatula, turn chicken thighs with metal tongs and gently whisk eggs with a metal whisk without worrying about damaging the pan.
- Toughened Nonstick cookware is extremely versatile, and can go from the stovetop to the oven, under the broiler and then brought to the table for true one-pan ease.
- Nonstick pans are great for cooking, but they're not so great (and shouldn't be used) for marinating or storing foods.
How to Clean Toughened Nonstick
- One of the benefits of nonstick cookware is that it is fast and easy to clean. Toughened Nonstick is dishwasher-safe, but we recommend hand washing to maintain the appearance and performance of the nonstick coating.
After cooking, allow the pan to cool completely. Simply use a soft nonstick sponge to wash with warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Be sure to never use metal cleaning pads or abrasive cleaners on nonstick cookware. We recommend using our Frying Pan Protectors when stacking and storing pans.
