Getting Started with Your Le Creuset Cookware

Finally, you received that piece (or set!) of Le Creuset cookware that has long been on your wish list. While you might want to run to the kitchen and start cooking, there are a few things we suggest you do first to set yourself up for cooking success. No matter whether you're cooking with our Enameled Cast IronToughened Nonstick or Enamel on Steel cookware, here are our tips for getting started with your Le Creuset cookware to ensure the best possible cooking results and years of enjoyment.

Remove All Packaging and Labels

The first thing to do with your new Le Creuset cookware is to remove all packaging and labels. Be sure to check the side of the pot or pan for the logo sticker we put on many products, and also on the bottom for the product sticker. If your cookware came with lid spacers (those little white U-shaped pieces of plastic that sit on the edge of the pot) be sure to save them to help with safely storing your cookware later.

Gently Wash and Dry Thoroughly

The next step is to gently wash your Le Creuset cookware in warm, soapy water with a mild dish soap and a nonabrasive natural or nylon sponge. It's important to never use metal sponges, abrasive cleaners (and also certain utensils) as they may scratch or mark your cookware. Dry the cookware thoroughly with an absorbent towel.

Condition the Interiors of Nonstick Cookware

If you're using our Toughened Nonstick cookware that have a nonstick interior, we recommend conditioning the nonstick before you cook with it. Rub a film of vegetable or corn oil over the entire interior cooking surface with a paper towel (no need to condition the exterior of the pan). Rinse the pan with hot water and dry thoroughly. Note that occasional re-conditioning after washing (especially if you put the pan in the dishwasher) is recommended and will help protect the surface of the pan and promote a longer life.

Review the Care and Use
